You’ll find at Whitehill a friendly down to earth bunch of people who are travelling along together in life aiming to live in harmony with God’s will.  You’ll probably find people your own age.  You’ll probably find people going through the same ups and downs as you.

But you’ll only know for sure if you check us out.  Come along to a Sunday Service or other group and find out even more … about Whitehill.

Our heritage is rich with people who truly loved God and loved others. The church has grown and outgrown its facilities a number of times throughout its 93 year history because its people are passionately committed to making disciples and seeing lives changed through the power of Jesus Christ.” style=”square_outline” color=”green”]In 1922 the chapel at the East Ipswich Church of Christ was with much fanfare with the new building even featuring electric light. The young church slowly grew and began a trend for East Ipswich/Whitehill of growth and outgrowth. By the 1950’s there was talk of needing more room.

In the 1960’s the congregation dedicated a new building on the corner of Bright street and Brisbane Road on land adjacent to the old building. It was a modern brick structure. Repeating the pattern in the first 40 years, the gathered church outgrew the building.  Space again was an issue, despite new offices for Church staff.

In the late 1990’s, Pastor Norm Flett saw the opportunity to purchase 20 acres of land in Raceview in hopes of one day moving the church to that property. He challenged the church with this vision.

The church purchased the land on Whitehill Road and went through the process of relocation. A new building was built which housed worship centre, hall, offices and a kitchen.  Churches of Christ in Qld built a Child Care Centre which operates on the front of the property.

In September 2000 with the Sydney Olympics Opening Ceremony in full swing the church had its first gathering. Since then we have added more meeting rooms and renovated our portico area with a small coffee shop.

Even though the church at East Ipswich/Whitehill has had a fantastic past, we believe our best days are still ahead of us. Building on the faithfulness of those in the past we want to continue to be strong for God for our future generations.[/vc_toggle][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”625″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_rounded” image_hovers=”false” el_class=”img-feature”][vc_custom_heading text=”Who Are We?” font_container=”tag:h2|text_align:left|color:%23333333″ google_fonts=”font_family:Raleway%3A100%2C200%2C300%2Cregular%2C500%2C600%2C700%2C800%2C900|font_style:600%20bold%20regular%3A600%3Anormal”][vc_toggle title=”We are Churches of Christ. As well as mainstream Christian churches we work with a range of care and community services, foster care, housing and aged care as well as child care.

While Churches of Christ in Queensland does not have a set creed or written statement of faith, the following principles have been foundational to the movement since the beginnings. This doesn’t cover everything but may give you an idea of what we stand for.

  • We acknowledge Jesus as the only head of the church
  • We aim to be not the only Christians, but Christians only
  • We use the New Testament as the only rule of faith and practice, not man-made creeds
  • We promote the rights to private judgment, liberty of conscience and mutual responsibility
  • We think that faith is available to anyone who chooses to believe
  • We practise believers’ baptism
  • We observe the Lord’s Supper weekly
  • All who love the Lord are welcome at the Lord’s table
  • We practice the priesthood of all believers
  • We work towards the union of all followers of Christ so that the world will believe.

My role is to help the church through an in-between time, an interim period. Essentially, I am a temporary Senior Pastor and a coach who works with the team here at Whitehill to get the church ready for the next part of her story.” style=”square_outline” color=”green”]I was born in South Africa, but mostly grew up in the North Western suburbs of Brisbane. I attended Arana Hills Church of Christ, and it was there as a sixteen year old that I decided to truly be a disciple of Jesus Christ! I was baptised, started growing in Christ, and started serving in the youth and worship ministries while studying teaching at QUT. After university I married the wonderful Alexia, and now 16 years later we have three awesome children, Emerson (11), Xavier (9) and Isla (6), and a dog called Candy (or mostly Cando!).

After a few years of being a maths and science teacher, (and a little bit of P.E.) I responded to the clear and compelling call to pastoral ministry, I became a pastor. I served at Enoggera Baptist Church for eight years, both as youth and young adults pastor, and then as Senior Pastor. More recently I have served as Senior Pastor of Cleveland Baptist Church. While pastoring I have completed at Master of Divinity and a Master of Arts in Christian Ministry, both at Malyon College. I looked particularly at church health and revitalization. I’ve also served as the State Director for Youth Ministry for Queensland Baptists, and for many years with Arrow Leadership Australia, as well as lots of volunteering with Scripture Union.

In my spare time I enjoy hiking, fishing, cooking, cycling, gardening, playing and watching sport, and spending time with friends and family, I have a mild obsession with coffee.  I am seriously passionate about Jesus and his church and want to be part of raising up a group of people who live out the live changing message of Christ by demonstrating and proclaiming the good news found in Jesus![/vc_toggle][ultimate_spacer height=”20″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_single_image image=”1307″ img_size=”200×200″ alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_border_circle_2″ border_color=”green”][vc_custom_heading text=”Julie Baldwin
